Kid Craft Activity Idea #2: Nature Crafts for Kids

Spring is a glorious time to take nature walks. Visit your local museum, state park, or local wooded park with your kids and discover some great craft activities along the way.

Oftentimes, museums have the trees labeled with their names. Take along a notebook and jot down the name of the tree as you collect the leaves. If the trees aren’t labeled, this is a great opportunity to do some research once you get home! Your child can later press these leaves between the pages of a heavy book (between sheets of wax paper) and create a scrapbook. This was one project I did in junior high biology class and I kept that scrapbook around for many years!

Another nature craft idea is a nature bracelet. Take a piece of masking tape and put it around each child’s wrist with the sticky part facing out. As you’re walking, your kids can find small leaves, twigs, berries, maybe even dead bugs to stick to their wrists. Ok, maybe I wouldn’t encourage pasting dead bugs to their wrists, but you get the idea.

Kid Craft Activity Idea #1: Scavenger Hunt and Picture Frame

Here's an activity that will entertain your child in a craft store. Write down or draw pictures of everything you need to create your project and take your list and your child to your local craft store. Give your kid the list and plop them in your shopping cart. As you go around the store have your child pick out items from their shopping list and put the items in your cart. Make sure to show your child how you compare prices and features of the items for an added learning bonus!

Here’s a fun-to-shop-for craft activity idea for you and your kids to do together:

Decorated Picture Frame

-Plain Cardboard or Plastic Picture Frame
-Tacky Glue
-Small Flowers
-Charms
-Buttons
-Stickers
-Paints or Markers

After all of the materials are gathered, simply glue the decorations to the frame and personalize it with the paints or markers. Then add a favorite photo!

Here are some theme ideas for your picture frame:
Seashore (shells, plastic crabs, seahorses, sand dollars, etc.)
Holiday
Bubbles (use white and clear round buttons, charms, puzzle pieces)
Nature (pressed flowers, dried leaves, moss, etc.)
